Mueller Park Hike snake

We went on a nature walk one Sunday evening. Brad caught a garter snake and Jack wanted to keep it. Brad did not want to carry it all the way back to the car; it was a stinky snake. Jack was so excited and begging, so I donated my purse to carry the snake in. The next day Brad and Jack went to the mall to buy a new purse for me, a purse of love. :-)
We kept the snake for about a month. "He is my friend," Jack would say. We fed him meal worms, but he did not eat them. We gave him a giant moth and they played togther. We gave him three caterpillars and they rode around on his neck. We gave him worms and he did not care. He was a friendly snake. We gave him a little hairy jumping spider; now they were enemies! They watched each other in a fighting stance for a couple days. They spider ate the caterpillars and made the snake so nervous, we took the jumping spider out. The snake was becoming more and more depressed after his caterpillar friends died. One day we found him lying upside down. We thought he was dead but then he moved. We let him free under the porch in the back yard.
